TAK Demonstration Flight

A live demonstration of MMEK's tactical picture from the AStar camera ship: TAK map presence, the AOG VECTOR common operating picture, and beyond-line-of-sight video from two sources — with no ground station.

TAK / VECTOR common picture

Aircraft position, sensor footprint, targets and ground units on one map, shared to ATAK, iTAK and WinTAK users and to VECTOR viewers anywhere, in real time.

1 BLOS feed · 2 sources

Live Shotover EO/IR from the AStar over satellite, and a second aircraft's video carried over the MANET mesh through the AStar to the same page — no line of sight, no ground station.

Air-to-ground C2

TAK chat and position sharing between the aircraft, the ground element and remote viewers on the same encrypted network, with about ten seconds of glass-to-glass video delay.

On September 24 the AStar camera ship flew a 95-minute demonstration over north Alabama (airborne at 11:09, down at 12:44 CT) while a second aircraft on the MANET mesh joined the same tactical picture as UTAH-BRAVO, which was on the ground.

Everything on this page was seen live by remote viewers on the AOG VECTOR page. The clips below are cut from the operator's screen recording, so they show exactly what the crew saw, map and overlays included.

  • Two aircraft, two video sources and one TAK picture with no ground station in the loop
  • Targets sent both ways with TAK and VECTOR — ground to aircraft and aircraft to ground — and visible on VECTOR or any TAK-connected device, anywhere
  • TAK chat from the crew station to HQ and the ground element during the flight
  • 30 remote viewers across 14 states, 15 at once at the peak, ~10 s glass-to-glass latency

Athens, AL — US-72 commercial corridor

The MMEK operator display: stabilised EO video on the left, the live TAK map on the right with the aircraft, the ground element (AOG-Dave, Jake) and the sensor footprint. One screen, whole picture.

EO to thermal on a moving vehicle

Rural north Alabama

Sensor switching on the same gimbal: the operator flips from colour EO to HOT-IR on a working vehicle in open ground without re-acquiring the target. The engine flares white against the cool field.

Over north Alabama

Air-to-ground C2 on the crew station: a comms check sent from the aircraft answered from VECTOR HQ and the ground element — text, position and video on one encrypted network with no ground station.

A target sent from the ground, flown to from the map

Moores Mill, AL

A target pushed from a TAK device on the ground appears on the crew station map as a red marker; the aircraft flies to it and the operator holds the objective at zoom while the map shows footprint, track and ground units.

Second target, same workflow

New Hope, AL

Another TAK-pushed target: the address marker on the map, the aircraft repositioning, the objective held at zoom. Shows how the ground-to-aircraft tasking loop repeats without voice coordination.

Returning toward Huntsville, AL

UTAH-BRAVO on the mesh, Vector-Mac at HQ and ground units all on the aircraft's TAK map at once. The second source is on the map, not just the video wall — one common operating picture for everyone.
